Bromley Pageant of Motoring is the biggest one-day classic car show in the world!

Sunday 13th June 2010

The first Pageant was in celebration of the Queens Silver Jubilee in 1977. It was a modest affair organised by Bromley Council and with about 150 cars in attendance. 3 years later Practical Classics got behind the event and boosted the cars exhibiting to 500. Since then the show has gone from strength to strength. There are now have over 3,000 exhibitors attending each year and 30,000 plus spectators.

This is the 4 th time the 750 Sporting Trials Club has exhibited at the Bromley pageant and this year we had 9 cars on show. Bill Watson arranged for ramps and scaffolding on the stand and built a display so that the cars could be seen in their normal habitat and angles of climb. The Sporting Trials centre had some flyers and DVD's made up to hand out giving an outline of what Sporting Trials is about. An itinerary of the club calendar was produced so any interested parties would know of upcoming events.

As the cars are of course very different from normal identifiable road cars they always create an interest in the passing public. While I was on the stand I was asked questions like, “how fast does it go” or “how much is the road tax on this”. such questions of course have to answered with tact and delicacy as you can imagine. However I was also pleased that there were quite a few people who knew exactly what it was all about and were interested to find out where they could go and see the cars in action. Some people remembering the Tony Mason presentation on the Discovery channel, and some even remembering Raymond Baxter presenting the sport on Saturday Grandstand. The Sporting Trials Championship is of course on its summer break at the moment and so a lot of people went away with diaries and promises to view websites and youtube. Hopefully as a result of all the efforts of the 750 Club members who came along and supported this event, we will see a few new faces in the autumn.

Thanks must go to Bill Watson and Larry Carroll and all the other members of the club that participated and came along to give their support on the day.
